Unique Wedding Cakes that will Inspire You

When I shoot weddings, I love capturing the wedding cake and the ceremonial cutting of the cake. There is a certain rawness that this moment exudes and it really is beautiful! It can seem kind of strange to eat in front of a room of family and friends, but the tradition brings out the couple’s personalities and fun. I have shot hundreds of weddings and seen a plethora of wedding cakes. My favorite wedding cakes reflect the bride and groom’s personalities. Whether it’s incorporating a unique wedding topper or a whimsical theme,  your creativity will leave an impression on your guests. Check out (some of) my favorites:

The Personal Cake Topper

I am so in love with Kalan and Sean‘s wedding cake toppers. The empire penguins are pieces of art and mesh so beautifully with the delicate flowers and soft lines of the cake.

Playful

Jovita and Hansel‘s playful wedding cake reflected the couple’s nature and relationship. From the cartoonish flowers, handwritten flags and unique wedding cake toppers, this cake was one of the cutest ones I have ever seen. The cake made all the guests smile and was very memorable!

Basically a Garden

I am a sucker for flowers and leaves on cakes. Adding flowers and leaves to a cake can turn a simple canvas into a work of art. The delicate and vibrant flowers on top of Jenny and Colin‘s wedding cake by Alliance Bakery exudes grace and sophistication. Whether you’re adding fresh or sugar flowers, they’re sure to add light and color to your big day.

The Gold Star

I couldn’t keep my eyes off this small yet mighty cake from Bittersweet Bakery. The gold and floral cake proves that size doesn’t matter when it comes to cakes! Erica and Troy‘s cake added a gentle sophistication to their special day.

The Simply Elegant

I love this cake! There is something so beautiful about seeing the individual layers of cake and frosting and the contrast of the cake and flowers. If you’re going for a natural look, consider an exposed cake like this one!

The Show Stopper

Kate and Eric‘s five tier floral cake from Amy Beck Cake Design was a showstopper. When I first saw it, I couldn’t believe my eyes! The cake was the centerpiece of the entire venue and reflected the couple’s extravagant taste and sophistication.

Silver and Sophisticated

Breanne and James celebrated their big day with a sophisticated silver and white cake. I loved that each tier was completely different and unique!

Birds and Branches

Laura and Antonio‘s cake is one of my favorites to date. I absolutely adore the use of succulents and ferns on this cake as well as the birds atop the cake. Bittersweet did a fantastic job bringing the couple’s visions to life!

When choosing a wedding cake, look for a bakery or wedding cake decorator that takes the time to meet with you and gets to know you as a couple. They’ll bring out the best of you and your spouse and create a piece of art that you’ll remember for the rest of your lives!
