Two weeks ago, I was able to go home to California and photograph a beautiful wedding at The Guild in Felton, California. I grew up surrounded by mountains and redwoods, but there was something different about this place this time. Maybe it was because I hadn’t been home in two years or because I hadn’t been here for more than three days since moving away for college. Regardless of the reason – I was absolutely mesmerized by the beauty around me… I now think it is so silly that I wasn’t more appreciative of where I grew up. The beach, the trees, the plants, the mountains and the family and friends that surrounded me for the last week gave me a little reality check. I miss my home a lot, but Chicago is our home for now and I have a new perspective: instead of worrying about life’s past or it’s future I will live life’s now and appreciate everything… even if I am giving up redwoods and the ocean for skyscrapers and a lake. Appreciate every detail… like every amazing detail about this wedding I am supposed to be sharing ; )

The wedding ceremony was in a redwood grove that is on the property – and it is absolutely stunning! Seriously – it was so intimate yet massive … just stunning. The bride went to high school with my older brother and I was so thrilled when she contacted me about photographing her wedding. She was disappointed because she realized I moved to Chicago and thought I wouldn’t be able to photograph her wedding. To her surprise I love traveling to photograph weddings and I don’t charge a travel fee for California Wedding Photography!

Mara and Mitch, I wish you many, many years of love and happiness. You two were so obviously meant for each other, congratulations on finding your soulmate!!!
